  • Heidi

Holistic Hound was founded by Heidi Hill in 2003 in Berkeley, California, and was one of the first “holistic” pet stores in the Bay Area.  Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Heidi loved animals, especially her beloved horse, Jazzy, and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. However, her career took a different turn, and she spent 20 years in the corporate world in finance, human resources, and sales.  During that time she discovered homeopathy and decided to go back to school to study more about this amazing 200-year-old healing modality. Her knowledge and understanding of health and wellness were forever changed, and her new perspective ultimately led her to pave a new path that would allow her to combine her two passions: animals and holistic healthcare.

  • Meagan

Meagan was born and raised in Wisconsin, where she developed a love for animals and nature. She graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in zoology, and moved out to the Bay Area with her husband a few years later. She has experience in environmental education, and relishes the opportunity to reach out to people to improve the way we care for our pets. She is a major reptile lover and currently shares her home with a little leopard gecko. When she isn’t helping out at Holistic Hound, Meagan enjoys hiking in National Parks with her husband, cooking, and playing her violin.

Dianne is a recent arrival to the Bay Area from Seattle. She graduated from the University of Washington and spent several years in the pet care industry before the sun drew her to California. Dianne is passionate about pit bulls and has three of her own. Sasha and Face still live in Seattle but Fred is her constant companion and pride and joy. On her days off, you can usually find Dianne, boyfriend Andrew, and Fred at Point Isabel, romping and fetching and retrieving tennis balls from trees. Andrew also works in Berkeley, with exotic birds and Dianne enjoys visiting the various avian characters that come through his store. Between departing Seattle and settling in Richmond, Dianne had a chance to travel briefly throughout Nor Cal and her interest has been piqued to explore more of California and enjoy all that Berkeley, San Francisco and the Bay Area have to offer.

  • Ken

Whether it was being surrounded by dogs, cats, horses, hamsters, or the wildlife that called the San Jacinto mountains home, Ken was raised in a family with a great love and respect for animals.  In his adult life, Ken continues that love into his work over the last few years focusing on dog and cat nutrition.  Ken firmly believes that all household budgets can accommodate a healthy diet and lifestyle through sound nutritional science. Whether that manifests itself in a raw diet, dehydrated foods, lightly-cooked choices or traditional kibbles enhanced with supplements.

In his personal life, kismet has brought the bully breeds into Ken’s home and heart..  Through adoption and fostering, Ken has had the great gift of guardianship for Rose – a pit/staffordshire red nose, and Holly – a staffordshire/Amer. bulldog mix.  Not to be overshadowed by the wonderful opportunity to foster through to adoption of Brownie – a delightful and energectic Brindle pit mix.  It is through these experiences that his dedication and love of all dog breeds has been nurtured and his interest in healthy and holistic pet nutrition and lifestyles has been been forged.

  • Brianna

Brianna is a native Northern California resident. Her love of animals started early in life. Her passion for animals has led her to pursue a degree in animal science with a focus on both nutrition and overall care.

In her “spare” time between working for Holistic Hounds and attending to her studies, she volunteers for many animal programs. Starting with the Oakland Zoo camp, she has given her time to the Tri-City Animal Shelter, select veterinarian offices, and is currently working at Oakland’s Fairyland. Her other interests include activities such as camping, hiking, archery and watching Amine with her cat Zuko and leopard gecko, Shiro.
